The Little Things Make Your Own City A Refresher Setting
This morning I took a quick walk through my own city. I have been exploring neighborhoods and cities for over two months now and have learned so much about the people and the dynamics that make up each community. My goal has always been to visit as many neighborhoods as possible and write about them. Today, as I am walking in my own city, I thought I’d share some of what I’ve seen so far.
The day I walked through my own city was one of the first days I’ve been out since leaving my small rural community and began researching what this big city had to offer me. I had left to get a degree but instead wound up staying put in an administrative position within a giant company. It was time to take a chance and get out into the big world. I knew that the chance to travel was always available but I didn’t know why I needed to do it, exactly, or how I wanted to do it. In fact, I probably still don’t.
What I did understand though was that I needed to start examining my entire perception of traveling. I realized that the only reason I was even considering traveling was because I was looking for a new perspective. I never stopped to ask myself what I viewed when I was simply exploring my own city. I never asked myself what I actually saw when I looked at the entire picture.
So what did I learn today? I realized that my perceptions of my own city and its people had become blind spots. I realized that my blind spot had actually become bigger than I originally thought because I didn’t even realize that I was looking in the wrong place. I also realized that I needed to start paying more attention to the little details in my own community.
These are simple concepts that can make a big impact on your life. You don’t have to take a million trips to places that you’ve never been before if you start exploring them on a daily basis. You don’t have to get new eyes in order to see the beautiful things in your own community because you started exploring them.
You see, there’s something really powerful about exploring a whole new community. It can completely refresh you and make you feel refreshed on a whole new level. Don’t give up! Explore your city with your family and friends today!
